Linear Regression follows the dark pixels of a border by following around to the likely connected pixels based on color range. If a pixel is next to the click and is dark then it is assumed that will also be part over the border to overlay.
This tool is automated, so after selecting it and a color then click on the structures outer membrane wall. It will generate the color overlay on any connected wall membrane.
