Summer 2019

This summer I scorred an REU down in Corpus Cristi Texas at Texas A&M University!

So many people told me to take pictures and keep them in the loop that I am writing this blog for it and my entire 10 week internship! As I do interesting things I will post them here

As far as I can tell, it is learning to fly and program drones (well UAS, Unmanned Arial Systems, but hey, thats drones (possibly drone swarms!)) for coastal mapping. Now, I am from Idaho and the options where to fly down to Texas or drive down. I looked it over, and considering I have about 50lbs of raw computer in a nice Thor v2 case, and I prefer to sleep in a hammock and stand flying appeared to be out of the question. So that leaves driving! Fortunatly, my dad decited to go down with me! INTRODUCING FATHER, SON GREAT AMERICAN ROAD TRIP!!!!! We are litterly driving accross the country north to south and half way accross east to west. We anticipate the trip taking 5 days.

• (8/10) Day 75: The Texas

  Did you know texas is big? Well guess what, Texas is BIG! We only drove half way accross it yesterday, and today is the other half. I sure hope nothing goes wrong. This would be a really bad day to need to replace something, like say a tire that got a bulge in it........

• (8/9) Day 74: The Return

  Today is day 74 of this summer trip. A full 10 weeks in Texas and we arent out yet. For those of you who dont know, Texas is BIG, real big. They also have some interesting roads, with interesting features. These features are Y exits, U-Turn lanes and crazy drivers. Fortunatly I am use to these however. Unfortunatly my did is not, and the only thing that kept him from diving out of the car when I parked in Los Antonio was the heat. Now that may sound bad, but let me explain.....

• (7/28-8/8) Week 9 & 10: The 3rd Law of McDonald

  In the last to weeks I added a 3rd Law to McDonalds law. Law's 1 and 2 will happen at the last possible moment. It came as a big shock to me on week 9 to discover that we had been doing almost everything wrong up to that point. Fortunatly we where able to fix it before the final presentaion. • (7/14-7/27) Week 7 & 8: The Proverbial Stuff Hits The Proverbial Fan

  Have you ever heard of Murphies law? What ever can go wrong, will go wrong? yah that one. Well there is a couple variations I discovered this week. I will call these McDonald's Laws. 1. Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong, all at the same time, and 2. Everything that cant possibly go wrong, will some how go wrong. Still atleast we had nice weather while we....

• (6/30-7/13) Week 5 & 6: Presentations

  Well Mid term presentation this week, and Data collection next week. And yet with all that we still have to fit in the 4th of July and a trip to 6 Flags. Well, fortunatly it all sounds like the fun stuff! None of this tedious....

• (6/16-6/29) Week 3 & 4: First Half

  Man so much is happening. It feels like everything and yet nothing are both happening at the same time. I feel like I did much these weeks, but I cant remember exactly what... Still what I can remember is epic! Did you know they have movie theaters with no kids, recliners, burgers, and beer? Well I sure do now! And its not really even more expensive than a regular theater and a resturant! They even have....

• (6/3-6/15) Week 1 & 2: Initiation

  Well its the first week, and you know what that means, its time to settle down and figure out what they actually want us to do. And also time to settle into the appartment. Interesting things happen, since we are using paper plates someone dicited the dishwasher was best used as a drying rack. Go figure. The weather here is....

• (6/2) Day 6: Corpus Christi or Bust

  Today is Day number 6 of our 5 day trip. This is our one day of cusion. Fortunatly Corpus Christi should only be 4 hours away! Now if only Google would stop trying to take us to San Antonio we could....

• (6/1) Day 5: Montana

  Woke up in the morning and looked out on the wonderfull town of Circle Montana Roswell New Mexico! Had breakfast at a great place called the Cowboy Cafe (Owboy Afe according to the sign), then hit the road. 8 hours of Montana Texas later we had arived in Ausin. Naturaly there was slightly more to it than just that, including....

• (5/31) Day 4: Route 66

  Again, Hammocks for the win! I slept like a rock last night, where as dad claimed to have slept on a rock. He sure woke up tired so I ended up driving most of the day while he napped. We went down I-40 which paralells old route 66, however, turns out route 66 only actually exists for about a block or 2 in EVERY SINGLE TOWN ON I-40! Tourist trap much? And did I mention the road construction....

• (5/30) Day 3: The Great, Grand, and Bryce Canyon

  My hammock turned out to be a God send, I dont know what I would have done without it, but today, I am well rested and ready to seize the day by its shirt colar and pin it up against a locker... or however that saying goes, which is good because today we are seeing Bryce canyon and the head of the Great Grand Canyon!
